Samuel Aduba leads design at Velora. He works mostly on defaults: what the product does when you have not told it anything, which is the state it spends most of its life in.

He came to software from editorial design, and still thinks in terms of pacing, hierarchy and the width of a column. He argues, frequently, that most interface problems are typography problems wearing a costume.

He writes here about decisions that were harder than they look, and occasionally about the ones that were easier.
